"Heading Towards Excellence"

I am privileged to be the new Headteacher of Kingsbury School and would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have offered their support in recent weeks.  I have now had the chance to meet with students and staff and have been made to feel very welcome.  It is this supportive environment, which is a key strength of the school and helps us develop individual talents and abilities.  I am keen to continue to develop this supportive partnership through more effective school, parent, pupil and community developments.

I believe that a school is a community in which we care for one another with patience and understanding, but also with firmness and discipline.  We offer students of all abilities the chance to succeed.  It is my aim to work with staff and parents to identify the unique needs of all our children in order to help them attain the very best results from their time with us.

There are four "core values" that I believe are essential to the continuing development of Kingsbury School.  These are learning, respect, responsibility and standards.

These underpin everything we do.  It is important that we have a well-ordered learning environment.  A school cannot operate effectively without high standards of behaviour and I recognise that a safe and orderly working environment is essential if our children are to flourish.

I am keen to actively encourage students to pursue their interests beyond the timetable.  There are already some excellent activities for the students to take advantage of.

At present we are reflecting on how things are for the students, staff and parents.  In the future I will be asking for your views on how we could improve.

There are many exciting opportunities on the horizon and I hope that together we carry on the good work already done and improve the school still further.  Our performance in GCSE,s 2007 showed improvement but we must not be complacent.  Our aim must be to turn a good school in an outstanding one.

The school is currently undergoing building work, it is therefore important to adhere to the applicable safety rules.  Please find details in our letters section below

Delight at this years

GCSE results

We are delighted by this years (2007) GCSE results at Kingsbury School which tell a story of continuing progression and success.  We have again increased the numbers of pupils leaving with 5 or more A* - C GCSEs, with some stunning individual achievements.

Governor

"tames the lions"

A member of our Governing Body has entered the Dragons' Den and emerged triumphant, as reported in the Tamworth Herald on Thursday 8th March 2007.  Casey Jones is probably best known to our pupils as the organiser of our Young Inventors Club, the first in the country.  Would be inventors meet together to discuss their ideas on a monthly basis.  The club is open to any pupil on roll and is proving extremely popular.  Click here to read the full story.

Ofsted News

We are pleased to inform you that we now have a copy of the Report, following our recent inspection and would like to share some extracts from it with you.  The first sentences on overall effectiveness of the school read:

“This is a satisfactory and improving school with some good features.  It is inclusive to pupils from a wide range of backgrounds and provides good care and support.  Pupils behave well and make good progress in their personal development.”

The Clare Bacciochi Education Foundation was established 26th May 2005.  It has been set up in memory of Clare and has been funded by a donation of £50,000 from the Bacciochi family who sadly lost their daughter in the Lockerbie bombing

As you know we have made repeated requests to you not to bring vehicles on to the school site at the beginning and end of the school day, for safety reasons.  Given that we intend to put new arrangements in place for January relating to the building work, I would request that you do not bring a vehicle onto school site between 8.00am and 8.45am or from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Please pick your child up at a pre-arranged safe point away from the site.  I would, however, appeal to you not to park near the school entrance as this will prove dangerous and inconvenience our neighbours.  It is also worth noting that the car park at the White Swan is not for public use.  Anyone using that car park may be liable to a fine from the owners.  I am sure that you will appreciate our concerns and thank you, in anticipation of your co-operation.

School Philosophy

Kingsbury School is special.  We provide a successful, secure, supportive environment where expectations are high and everyone can "learn and flourish".

All members of our school are valued equally, wherever their talents lie.  We are committed to their education and progress and are proud of our examination success. We work hard to equip our pupils with the skills and knowledge they need to enter the adult world as confident, responsible and caring citizens. Kingsbury is a unique school where enjoyment and discipline combine to inspire a love of learning life.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that pupils are not allowed to bring mobile phones into school.  They have no need for them during the school day, when the focus is on teaching and learning.  If parents need to communicate urgently with a pupil during the school day do please ring the office and a message will be passed on.  Similarly, if a child needs to contact a parent we will make the necessary arrangements.  I do understand that there may be an occasional need for a pupil to have a mobile phone after the end of the school day, if he/she is not going straight home or to someone's home.  If parents write a note to school on such a day we will look after the phone for that day and it can be collected from the office at 3.15pm.  I do urge parents to discuss this policy with their children.  It is there, as has been explained in assemblies, for their own protection.

Kingsbury School

performs well

 nationally

I am delighted to be able to inform you that Kingsbury School has been recognised by the Department for Education and Skills as one of the top performing schools nationally.  We were amongst only one hundred schools to receive a letter from Jim Knight, the Minister of State for Schools and 14 – 19 Learners, congratulating us on our excellent performance.  We are ranked 46th best school in the country based on sustained improvement in KS3 achievement and attainment tables for the period 2003 – 2006.  A copy of the Minister’s letter can be downloaded from here.  If you are unable to view it please contact us at School so that we can arrange for a hard copy to be made available for you.

I am delighted that the hard work of our staff with our pupils has been recognised in this way and would congratulate the young people involved and their teachers.  I would also add my thanks in recognition of the important role which partnership working with the home also plays in securing such an outcome.  We look forward to continuing to work with you so that we can build on the strengths that have been recognised at national level.
