Key Stage 3 History

All pupils have 2 hours of History a week in Years 7-9. Each class undertakes a study of the following Historical topics/Issues.

Year 7

Study Skills (Chronology, time, use of sources)

Norman Conquest

Medieval Society

Health & Disease

Medieval monarchs

Relationships with other countries.

Year 8

Britain in 1500

Tudor monarchs (Henry VIII and Elizabeth I )

James I & Gunpowder Plot

Civil War

Health, Superstition and Settlement after 1660.

The French Revolution

Impact of Napoleon

The Slave Trade

Slave Economies

Slave Resistance & Abolition.

Year 9

Overview of Britain 1750-1900

Industrial Changes & Working conditions.

Causes of WWI

Nature of Trench Warfare

New Technology in war

Peace Treaty at Versailles

Europe 1918-39 (Dictatorships).

Nazi Germany

Experiences of WWII

The Holocaust

Legacy of the war.

In addition to a yearly examination, pupils are assessed every six weeks with a formal written assessed exercise. These are marked according to levels of achievement. The level achieved is usually between 3-7 with the majority of pupils achieving an average of level 5 by the end of year 9.
