In
the department all pupils follow the National Curriculum for Mathematics
at Key Stage 3 (Yrs 7,8 & 9) . This leads up to the S. A. T's examination
which takes place in Yr 9.
Programmes of Study at KS3 are produced in line with the National
Curriculum and the Framework for Teaching Mathematics.
Yrs
7, 8 &9 are taught maths for 3 hrs per week. From Yr8 onwards all
pupils are set according to mathematical ability. This is based on the
results of examinations and pupil knowledge.
At
KS4 (Yrs 10 & 11) all pupils are taught for 4 hrs per week and follow a
course of study following on from KS3, leading up to the G. C. S. E
examinations in Yr 11.
This course of study is at 3 levels, Higher, Intermediate and
Foundation.
At
the Higher Level, pupils can gain A*,- C grades, at the Intermediate
Level, B – E grades and at the Foundation Level, C, - G grades.
