RE Update: 2007-8

In a very exciting move this year, the RE department has joined with the Science Department to teach joint projects as part of our schools’ Science and Mathematics specialism. We very much look forward to working more closely with the science team.

The summer term in Year 7 will be used for joint teaching of the Universe. Science will approach the basics of how our universe and planets are formed, whilst in RE pupils will compare and contrast religious and scientific ideas about the origins of the universe and how religion impacted upon great scientists and their discoveries.

The summer term in Year 8 will be used for joint teaching of the Environment. Science will approach the basics of environmental concerns and solutions, whilst in RE pupils will debate and reflect upon the question of ownership and responsibility for our planet and its inhabitants.

The RE Department are delighted to welcome Mrs Mosom this year – a Humanities specialist - who will be teaching years 7, 8 and 9.

The trip to Auschwitz in Poland may not be going ahead this year, but pupils are set to experience educational visits to Lichfield and Coventry Cathedrals. We will also have visiting speakers from the Buddhism and Muslim faith. Year 9 will receive their Holocaust Survivor talk – a truly unique opportunity to hear a first person account of the Nazi genocide.
