We are very proud of our pupils’ achievements in Mathematics. Both GCSE and Key Stage 3 results are improving each year. Pupils work hard in class and show a strong desire to achieve good results in Mathematics. Last year we achieved 67% A*-C.
All pupils study Mathematics throughout the five years they spend at Kingsbury. We have a two year Key Stage 3 in years 7 and 8 for all pupils. We then start GCSE Mathematics in year 9 with the intention of all students to sit their GCSE Mathematics at the end of year 11.
A Level Mathematics
Pupils achieving grades B, A or A* in GCSE mathematics will be able to study AS mathematics in Year 12. This comprises of three units Core Mathematics 1, Core Mathematics 2 and Statistics 1. Students will then be able to go on and study A2 Mathematics in year 13, the units to be studied are Core Mathematics 3, Core Mathematics 4 and Mechanics 1.
A Level Further Mathematics
Any students who qualify to study A Level mathematics will also have the opportunity to cover more challenging and enriching modules in Further Mathematics. In year 12 students will study Decision 1, Decision 2 and Further Pure Mathematics 1. Once completing the AS modules, students can go on to study Further Pure Mathematics 3, Mechanics 2 and Statistics 2 in year 13.
