Teaching Staff:  Mrs S Hearn, Mrs P Lauben, Miss C Fitzgerald,  Mrs K Pyke, Dr L Skydemore

Examination:  AQA Specification A

English specifications changed nationally in September 2010. Below is an indication of what we hope pupils will pursue. In Year 10 students will focus on the English Language course and then move onto English Literature in Year 11.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE - ASSESSMENT
During the course, pupils are assessed through Controlled Assessments and Examinations. The focus of these assessments is English Language skills and Speaking and Listening skills.
The Controlled Assessments will take place in school during the autumn and spring terms. They will be followed by the examinations for units one, two and three.

COURSE CONTENT

Pupils will cover a wide range of material; media texts, non-fiction texts and communication skills through speaking and listening tasks.
They will over the course develop an understanding and appreciation of style, audience and purpose. Skills of analysis and interpretation will be developed by pupils and they will adopt an active approach to their learning.
