DiDA  Syllabus Code D102

Unit 1 - Using ICT

SHORT COURSE:

All students will study this course for one period in Years 9, 10 and 11 which will result in the attainment of the Award in Digital Applications (equivalent of one GCSE)

The DiDA suites of qualifications are assessed internally by the school before being externally moderated. Each unit is worth the equivalent of a full GCSE. Students complete the work set by the exam board using the criteria published on their website. This information can be accessed from home so parents can support their child and see how they are progressing. Once the work has been completed to the best of their ability they then create a website and attach all the work to it.

The Course Content

Students will study the Award in Digital Applications (AiDA) which is part of the Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA) suite of qualifications. It is an innovative and flexible paperless ICT suite of qualifications designed to connect students more closely with their goals in further education or employment, as well as with other areas of the curriculum. Students are required to demonstrate the following;

  • Ability to establish the objectives of a project and plan for their achievement within a given time scale. (12%)
  • Practical capability in gathering and selecting information from appropriate sources. (33%)
  • Practical capability in using digital applications to support creative processes and produce outcomes that match requirements. (33%)
  • Ability to reflect critically on their own and others’ use of digital applications and make constructive use of evaluative comments. (22%)

The unit is assessed via a summative project in which students bring together the knowledge, skills and understanding they have acquired throughout the unit into one substantial piece of work – an e-portfolio. Students complete the project towards the end of the course.
